New Approach to Seasonal Information by DoH
1 Sep 2010
In an information update, the Department of Health has explained that there will be a different approach to providing some of the Autumn/Winter seasonal health information this year.
In their article they say:
Overall approach
The Department’s approach this year will be to work with a wide range of organisations so that we take our content to where our target audiences are already looking for information. We will also be improving the way that winter-related content is presented and linked to on the NHS Choices site.
Our approach is built around learnings from past campaigns – for example on Keep Warm Keep Well, those in families on low income told us they’d prefer to find the content online. Our research from the flu campaign consistently showed that one of the most powerful influences on an individual’s decision to get the jab is a personal recommendation from their GP or practice nurse.
Seasonal 'Flu Immunisations
They are updating the 'flu immunisation leaflet to reflect the latest guidance on who should get it, including advice for pregnant women. But this will only be available as a PDF download.
We will put it into our catalogue, as an information item, with a link for download.
Keep Warm Keep Well
The 2010 edition will include information on financial support for those in 'fuel poverty' and practical advice for coping with a cold snap. This will also be PDF download only, at first, with a small number of printed copies available for those "hard to reach digitally".
Again we will include this in our catalogue for information and download.
Implications
It's hard to know how this will affect our users but we will monitor the situation.
If there is enough interest we may consider a small print run of some titles. Alternatively it may be more effective to provide posters or flyers highlighting where the information can be downloaded from.

28 Jun 2010
The Summer is finally here, and looks likely to produce several hot and sunny spells. This is generally good news but there are dangers too, from skin cancer risk and dehydration. Older people are particularly vulnerable to heat stress.
So it is important to raise awareness of sun and heat safety and skin cancer protection at this time. We have several resources available on these topics including leaflets and posters as well as DVDs, packs, displays and models.

Healthy Eating Leaflet - NEW DESIGN
17 May 2010
Our
leaflet "Healthy Eating"
has now been redesigned and reprinted. It is now called "Eat
Well Be Healthy".
It
has been completely reviewed and amended by the Public Health Dietitians
so that the advice meets all the latest guidance on balance, portion
sizes and getting a healthy mix of foods. It has also been redesigned
to give it a slightly new look while still retaining the familiar feel.
It has always been a very popular leaflet in the past, so we hope the updated version will continue to be a useful item.
We had just run out of stock of the previous design, but we now have plenty of the new design so you can place orders immediately.
To view and order it from our on-line catalogue:
- Go to our on-line catalogue
- Log in (Optional - only required if ordering items)
- Type be healthy in the TITLE box
- Click the Search button at the bottom of the screen
