The main driving force for developing an
East Berkshire wide falls service is the East Berkshire Older People
Strategy Group. However, the work is supported by four enthusiastic
working groups from Bracknell Forest, Slough, Windsor, Ascot & Maidenhead
and Heatherwood & Wexham
Park Hospitals.
In July 2005 the Falls Strategy for East Berkshire was agreed. You can

Two year AgILE Programme coming to an end!
The “AgILE” Programme, (Ageing
for Independent Living in East
Berkshire) which was developed in the summer of 2006 to raise awareness
on falls and fractures, has almost been completed. While there
will always be a need for information and highlighting the importance
of falls and fracture prevention, the majority of professional groups
have now been informed. Raising awareness among the public will
also continue whenever opportunities arise.
Specialist Services that make a difference
In east Berkshire we have three Falls Prevention Clinics:
- Great Holland's Health Centre in Bracknell
- St. Mark's Day Hospital in Maidenhead
- Upton Hospital in Slough.
At a falls clinic people aged 65 and over
are offered an in-depth assessment by a physician, nurse, physiotherapist
and occupational therapist. Most also participate in a special
falls prevention exercise programme and receive advice on healthy
eating, home hazards, how to get up after a fall etc.
Those older
people whose falls are due to environmental and/ or mobility problems only, can
be seen by a physiotherapist and/or occupational therapist in their
own home if this is more appropriate.
When falls are the result of losing
consciousness, the individual may be seen in the Syncope Clinic at
King Edward VII Hospital in Windsor.
